What Is a Raw Vegan Diet?

A raw vegan diet is a natural diet that corresponds to the anatomy and physiology of the human body. The term raw means that the food has not been cooked, and the term vegan means that all food is of plant origin.

A vegan diet implies the consumption of food of plant origin, but also in cooked form.

A vegetarian diet implies the consumption of all foods except animal flash.

A raw vegan diet is a diet that consists exclusively of fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds.

What Are the Reason for Adopting a Raw Vegan Diet?

There are many strong reasons for adopting a raw vegan diet, such as the following:

  1. Health reasons
A raw vegan diet consisting of fresh fruits and young tender greens with moderate amounts of nuts and seeds is the diet that supports the health of the whole body. This type of diet consists of fresh vegan foods that:
best match the nutritional needs of the human body,
is the easiest to process through the human digestive system,
stimulates intestinal peristalsis, which leads to regular elimination and the light feeling in the intestines,
hydrates the body due to its high water content.
A hydrated body that receives fresh nutrients from plant foods, along with easy digestion and bowel elimination, creates the most effective conditions for establishing and maintaining long-term health.
  2. Environmental reasons
The demand for fruits and vegetables as the main food encourages the production of fresh produce. This kind of production means planting fruit trees, fruit bushes and vegetables. More vegetation in general brings about many positive effects such are the following:
    Healthy and strong soil
    More oxygen in the air
    Cleaner air
    Improved climate
Diverse ecosystem since trees and bushes are a habitat for numerous animal species that live on them.
At the same time, a raw vegan diet automatically excludes the use of stoves, thus eliminating the creation of toxic fumes and smoke that are formed during the cooking process of foods.
  3. Aesthetic reasons
A vegan diet excludes the exploitation of animal species for human consumption. This approach excludes the existence of ruthless slaughterhouses and the meat industry, which represents the biggest environmental pollution cause through its merciless and unjustified activities.
  4. Economic reasons
A raw vegan diet is the only economically viable diet.
If a raw veagn diet were to become the norm, the demand for this diet would result in turnover of the market towards the elimination of unnecessary products that are harmful to health and ecology, and economically not sustainable. At the same time, the market would direct its resources to the production of the best quality fresh produce. This way, people would get a rich assortment of various fruits and vegetables, of top quality at competitive prices.

How Does a Raw Vegan Diet Look Like in Practice?

A raw vegan diet is a very simple diet, just as a natural diet would be. Meals on a raw vegan diet can be extremely simple like: a meal of tangerines or bananas or watermelon or cantaloupe… Or a simple salad with a dressing of blended avocado and lemon, for example.

How Do Meals on a Raw Vegan Diet Look Like?

The raw vegan diet that I (the author of the book Raw yet Warm) have been practicing since 2012 and I suggest through my teachings, consists of simple meals of whole plant-based foods in sufficient quantity to meet the individual caloric needs of the individual. An example of a typical daily meal plan looks like this:

  1. Breakfast: a simple meal of fruits that are rich in water, such as watermelon / cantaloupe / tangerines / pineapple…
  2. Lunch: a simple meal of sweet fruits like bananas / grapes / persimmons / figs …
  3. Dinner: a vegetable-based dish containing a dressing with some source of fatty foods such as avocado / nuts / seeds.

How Is It Possible that Food Is Warm without Cooking?

It is possible to slightly warm food without cooking in the dehydrator. A dehydrator is a kitchen appliance that is typically used for making dehydrated foods such are crackers, chips and spices. However, with a bit of imagination, it can also be used for making delicious raw vegan meals that are heated up to no more than 115 F / 47 C degrees. As long as the food processing temperatures do not exceed a point of around 115 F / 47 C degrees, the food retains all its enzymatic and nutritional value.

Let’s also acknowledge that the 115 F / 47 C degrees is not as strict and magical number as is usually thought. This top temperature number varies based on different factors, but for the sake of simplifying the explanation, we will use this number.

It is true that some percentage of water is always lost when food is processed in a dehydrator. However, most of the recipes in the book Raw yet Warm are aimed at gently warming food. There is also a chapter in the book with recipes for making fruit and vegetable chips that imply that almost all of the water in the food has been eliminated. It should be kept in mind that these chips are certainly healthier than store-bought chips, but that the intake of food that does not contain its natural water is never conducive to optimal digestion and health. However, those chips are fantastic for preserving food when you have excess fresh produce and can be used very nicely to thicken salad dressings.

Is a Dehydrator Necessary for Making the Recipes from the e-Book Raw yet Warm?

A dehydrator is not necessary in general on a raw diet, and it is not necessary for preparing of recipes from the e-book Raw yet Warm. For a start, you can simply use the oven at the lowest temperature and with ventilation on.

But keep in mind that a dehydrator is certainly desirable as a kitchen appliance because it allows for the versatile preparation of various foods, the preservation of extra fresh produce, and the warming of food without cooking it. You can order a quality dehydrator HERE.

Are the Recipes from the e-Book Raw yet Warm Complicated to Make?

Most of the recipes in the e-book Raw yet Warm are very easy to prepare. It’s true that for beginners in raw food preparation, it takes some initial practice to prepare raw vegan dishes. Once those first steps are mastered, it becomes clear how much the recipes in this e-book are easier to prepare than the standard recipes.

I will also mention this: I am well aware that in general it often happens that people buy a recipe book, but most of them rarely actually make any recipe from the book they bought. To make it as easy as possible for you to get into the culinary waters of preparing raw vegan dishes, I have created an online course for you that complements this recipe e-book very nicely. Who Wrote the Recipe e-Book Raw yet Warm?

Hi!

This is the author of the e-book Raw yet Warm, Marina from Health Glows. This book is the result of several month long and dedicated work in my stoveless kitchen (yes, yes – there is no stove or any kind of food cooking device in my kitchen). I was creating this collection of recipes in my desire to provide a solution to the one of the most common obstacles people generally have when it comes to a raw vegan diet. That obstacle reads that people are craving some warm meals that satisfy the desire for certain smells, visual experiences, textures and tastes of those very foods that most people are used to.

I love to prepare raw vegan food. Creative culinary work in the preparation of healthy and delicious recipes from fresh plant foods is my pleasure! I sincerely hope that you will also enjoy the recipes from the e-book Raw yet Warm.

Why Did I Write a Recipe Book in which Raw Food is Also Warm?

Over the years, one of the most common obstacles that my followers and clients have presented to me standing in their way of a following a raw vegan diet is the following:

  • I miss WARM food!

I love CHALLENGES! Or let’s put it this way: I like to turn every obstacle in an effective bridge that will lead my followers and clients to the safe and secure ground from where they can easily continue their SUCCESSFUL journey of health and vitality that includes a raw vegan diet.

And so, as I often do, I asked myself the following questions:

  • How can we make it possible?
  • Is using the stove the only way to warm food?
  • Does warming food has to involve cooking food?

Perhaps… if we are creative enough and think outside of the limited perspective that is the norm and the ONLY option most people know about…

Perhaps (read SURELY) we can find and create new ways, new solutions, new… FOOD that is both raw and warm.
